As an online developer and consultant, I’m constantly discovering new abilities. Norwegian Lessons Skillshare… to stay up to date with the trade and make customers happy. To do so, I’ve relied heavily on online knowing over the past 5 years. Normally, when I wish to find out something new, I simply go to YouTube and enter a question and hope for the best.
Most of the time, I get videos taught by “experts” with endless advertisement breaks and pitches to buy their product. I imply, what else can you get out of “free courses.” Just recently, fed up with the poor quality and doubtful knowledge shared on complimentary platforms, I relied on an online knowing platform I keep hearing so much about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s high-quality free classes, I registered for a yearly subscription (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare pricing area) and dove deeper into the Skillshare courses provided to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare student here in this in-depth review. While some reviews for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, everything you are about to check out comes directly from my own experience as a devoted student.
If you are trying to find a TLDR version of this review, here it is:
The large amount of brand-new content that is added to the platform weekly suffices to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you want to pick up a new skill to make your resume shine, change your home, or master a pastime “just for the hell of it,” you can quickly discover dozens of chances to level up your collection. Further, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for teachers means that there’s no scarcity of outstanding instructors producing top quality and new material routinely.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to discover it all!
Communities of similar learners
Feeling part of a peer-group can be hard when you have specific niche interests like Board Game Design or Floral Embroideries. Between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and differed trainers, you’re unlocking a treasure trove of chance for connection and neighborhood building. This is a big perk for us “geeks” to feel part of something bigger than our own specific efforts AND it allows for us to discover not just from the professionals, however from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to produce my account, login, browse for material I’m interested in, and discover a course that fit the costs. I was diving deep into my very first course in less than 20 minutes, excited to find even more content to feast on.
Kudos to Skillshare for making a quickly navigable desktop AND mobile platform, and for consisting of a start/stop performance that synchronizes across devices.
Between the ability to “preferred” excellent instructors and conserve Skillshare classes to individualized lists, not to mention the Discovery area of the Skillshare app, I am never for want of new material to learn. And the truth that I get to find out on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Drawbacks (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the primary drawbacks of Skillshare:
Not totally available
Not every teacher ROCKS
The advertisements are annoying, so you’ll want to pay
Not completely accessible
As I was checking courses and developing my Skillshare review, I was continually disappointed by the absence of closed captioning offered on the videos. This essentially makes the platform impossible to utilize for those who are hearing not able and impaired to check out lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every instructor ROCKS
The variance in quality of trainers can be a continuous obstacle on your method to understanding gain. Given that having the ability to teach efficiently is a hard-won skill in it of itself, it would be naive to believe that every instructor on the platform excels at the basics of mentor.
A good quality indication is the number of trainees a course has actually hosted, as greater numbers tend to correlate with higher quality trainers. However, this isn’t always the case– some courses are just specific niche enough to not attract the “masses” anyway.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The opportunity to discover for knowing’s sake is factor enough for me to comfortably declare that Skillshare deserves it. The hands-on jobs and ability to connect with others, consisting of professionals in your preferred fields of understanding, makes the $14 a month fee a deal. The onus is on YOU to identify which courses would bring you the most value, whether you intend to reinforce your resume with gleaming competitive abilities or assert yourself as an expert enthusiast.
Skillshare members can gain a lot more than simply new abilities from the courses. You’ll fall in love with discovering again, fulfill inspired and skilled peers that will challenge and motivate you, and may find yourself addicted (nay, consumed!) with acquiring knowledge.
Include a line item to your annual budget for Skillshare access. Your brain will thank you for it!
