As an online developer and expert, I’m constantly finding out brand-new skills. Olimpia Zagnoli Skillshare… to stay up to date with the trade and make clients happy. To do so, I’ve relied heavily on online learning over the past five years. Generally, when I wish to discover something brand-new, I merely go to YouTube and key in a concern and expect the best.
Most of the time, I get videos taught by “specialists” with unlimited ad breaks and pitches to purchase their merchandise. I mean, what else can you anticipate from “free courses.” Recently, fed up with the poor quality and questionable knowledge shared on totally free platforms, I turned to an online learning platform I keep hearing so much about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s high-quality complimentary classes, I signed up for a yearly subscription (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare pricing section) and dove much deeper into the Skillshare courses provided to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare student here in this in-depth review. While some evaluations for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, everything you are about to read comes directly from my own experience as an avid student.
If you are looking for a TLDR variation of this review, here it is:
The large quantity of brand-new content that is added to the platform weekly is enough to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you want to get a new skill to make your resume shine, change your home, or master a hobby “just for the hell of it,” you can easily find lots of chances to level up your collection. Further, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for instructors implies that there’s no shortage of exceptional trainers creating high-quality and brand-new content frequently.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to discover all of it!
Communities of like-minded students
When you have niche interests like Board Video game Design or Floral Embroideries, feeling part of a peer-group can be hard. Between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and varied instructors, you’re unlocking a bonanza of opportunity for connection and neighborhood structure. This is a huge perk for us “geeks” to feel part of something larger than our own specific efforts AND it allows for us to learn not only from the experts, but from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to develop my account, login, search for material I have an interest in, and find a course that fit the bill. I was diving deep into my very first course in less than 20 minutes, eager to find even more content to devour.
Congratulations to Skillshare for making a quickly accessible desktop AND mobile platform, and for including a start/stop functionality that synchronizes throughout devices.
In between the ability to “favorite” fantastic teachers and conserve Skillshare classes to customized lists, not to mention the Discovery section of the Skillshare app, I am never ever for desire of brand-new material to learn. And the reality that I get to find out on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Drawbacks (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the primary downsides of Skillshare:
Not totally available
Not every instructor ROCKS
The ads are annoying, so you’ll wish to pay
Not completely available
As I was evaluating courses and developing my Skillshare review, I was constantly dissatisfied by the lack of closed captioning offered on the videos. This basically makes the platform impossible to use for those who are hearing impaired and unable to check out lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every teacher ROCKS
The variance in quality of trainers can be a continuous obstacle on your way to understanding gain. Considering that being able to teach efficiently is a hard-won ability in it of itself, it would be naive to believe that every trainer on the platform stands out at the essentials of teaching.
A good quality indication is the number of students a course has hosted, as higher numbers tend to correlate with higher quality instructors. Nevertheless, this isn’t always the case– some courses are simply specific niche enough to not appeal to the “masses” anyway.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The chance to discover for knowing’s sake is reason enough for me to comfortably declare that Skillshare is worth it. The hands-on tasks and ability to get in touch with others, including experts in your wanted fields of understanding, makes the $14 a month cost a deal. The onus is on YOU to determine which courses would bring you the most worth, whether you intend to strengthen your resume with shimmering competitive abilities or assert yourself as an expert enthusiast.
Skillshare members can gain a lot more than just brand-new skills from the courses. You’ll fall for learning once again, satisfy determined and skilled peers that will challenge and influence you, and may find yourself addicted (nay, obsessed!) with gaining knowledge.
