As an online creator and expert, I’m constantly learning brand-new abilities. Piccolo Skillshare… to stay up to date with the trade and make customers pleased. To do so, I’ve relied heavily on online knowing over the past 5 years. Generally, when I wish to find out something brand-new, I just go to YouTube and type in a question and hope for the very best.
Most of the time, I get videos taught by “professionals” with limitless ad breaks and pitches to purchase their merchandise. I mean, what else can you get out of “free courses.” Recently, fed up with the poor quality and questionable understanding shared on totally free platforms, I relied on an online learning platform I keep hearing a lot about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s high-quality totally free classes, I registered for a yearly subscription (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare rates section) and dove much deeper into the Skillshare courses offered to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare student here in this thorough evaluation. While some reviews for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, everything you will read comes straight from my own experience as an avid student.
If you are trying to find a TLDR version of this review, here it is:
The sheer quantity of brand-new content that is contributed to the platform weekly suffices to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you wish to pick up a brand-new ability to make your resume shine, restyle your house, or master a hobby “just for the hell of it,” you can quickly find lots of chances to level up your repertoire. Even more, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for instructors suggests that there’s no shortage of exceptional trainers producing premium and new material frequently.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to learn everything!
Neighborhoods of similar students
When you have specific niche interests like Board Video game Style or Floral Embroideries, feeling part of a peer-group can be hard. Between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and differed instructors, you’re opening a bonanza of opportunity for connection and community building. This is a huge perk for us “nerds” to feel part of something larger than our own individual efforts AND it permits us to find out not just from the experts, however from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to produce my account, login, browse for material I’m interested in, and discover a course that fit the costs. I was diving deep into my first course in less than 20 minutes, eager to find much more content to devour.
Congratulations to Skillshare for making an easily navigable desktop AND mobile platform, and for including a start/stop performance that syncs across gadgets.
Between the ability to “favorite” great instructors and conserve Skillshare classes to individualized lists, not to mention the Discovery section of the Skillshare app, I am never ever for want of brand-new material to learn. And the reality that I get to discover on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Drawbacks (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the main drawbacks of Skillshare:
Not fully available
Not every instructor ROCKS
The advertisements are frustrating, so you’ll wish to pay
Not fully available
As I was testing courses and developing my Skillshare review, I was continuously disappointed by the absence of closed captioning offered on the videos. This essentially makes the platform impossible to use for those who are hearing not able and impaired to read lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every instructor ROCKS
The variation in quality of trainers can be a continual obstacle on your way to knowledge gain. Since having the ability to teach successfully is a hard-won skill in it of itself, it would be naive to believe that every instructor on the platform stands out at the fundamentals of teaching.
A good quality indication is the number of trainees a course has hosted, as greater numbers tend to correlate with higher quality instructors. This isn’t constantly the case– some courses are just specific niche enough to not appeal to the “masses” anyhow.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The opportunity to learn for learning’s sake is factor enough for me to peacefully declare that Skillshare is worth it. The hands-on jobs and ability to connect with others, including experts in your desired fields of understanding, makes the $14 a month charge a deal. The onus is on YOU to figure out which courses would bring you the most value, whether you intend to bolster your resume with sparkling competitive abilities or assert yourself as an expert enthusiast.
Skillshare members can acquire far more than just new abilities from the courses. You’ll fall for learning once again, fulfill experienced and motivated peers that will challenge and motivate you, and might find yourself addicted (nay, obsessed!) with getting understanding.
