As an online creator and expert, I’m constantly finding out brand-new skills. Skillshare Anna Sokolova… to stay up to date with the trade and make clients pleased. To do so, I’ve relied heavily on online knowing over the past 5 years. Usually, when I want to discover something new, I just go to YouTube and type in a question and hope for the best.
Most of the time, I get videos taught by “professionals” with endless ad breaks and pitches to buy their product. I mean, what else can you expect from “free courses.” Just recently, fed up with the poor quality and questionable knowledge shared on complimentary platforms, I relied on an online knowing platform I keep hearing a lot about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s top quality complimentary classes, I signed up for an annual subscription (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare rates section) and dove much deeper into the Skillshare courses used to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare learner here in this extensive review. While some reviews for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, everything you are about to read comes directly from my own experience as an avid learner.
If you are searching for a TLDR variation of this evaluation, here it is:
The sheer quantity of new content that is contributed to the platform weekly is enough to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you wish to pick up a new ability to make your resume shine, restyle your house, or master a hobby “just for the hell of it,” you can quickly find lots of opportunities to level up your collection. Further, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for teachers implies that there’s no scarcity of outstanding instructors developing new and premium material regularly.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to learn all of it!
Neighborhoods of similar students
When you have specific niche interests like Board Game Style or Floral Embroideries, feeling part of a peer-group can be hard. In between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and differed instructors, you’re opening a gold mine of opportunity for connection and community building. This is a big perk for us “nerds” to feel part of something larger than our own individual efforts AND it allows for us to find out not only from the professionals, but from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to create my account, login, search for material I’m interested in, and find a course that fit the bill. I was diving deep into my very first course in less than 20 minutes, excited to discover even more content to feast on.
Kudos to Skillshare for making a quickly accessible desktop AND mobile platform, and for consisting of a start/stop functionality that syncs throughout gadgets.
In between the ability to “favorite” fantastic instructors and conserve Skillshare classes to tailored lists, not to mention the Discovery area of the Skillshare app, I am never for want of new material to discover. And the fact that I get to learn on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Drawbacks (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the primary drawbacks of Skillshare:
Not completely available
Not every instructor ROCKS
The advertisements are irritating, so you’ll want to pay
Not completely accessible
As I was evaluating courses and constructing my Skillshare evaluation, I was continuously dissatisfied by the lack of closed captioning available on the videos. This basically makes the platform difficult to use for those who are hearing not able and impaired to check out lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every teacher ROCKS
The variance in quality of trainers can be a consistent challenge on your method to knowledge gain. Since being able to teach successfully is a hard-won skill in it of itself, it would be naive to believe that every trainer on the platform excels at the fundamentals of teaching.
A good quality indicator is the number of students a course has hosted, as higher numbers tend to correlate with higher quality instructors. This isn’t constantly the case– some courses are simply specific niche enough to not appeal to the “masses” anyway.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The opportunity to find out for knowing’s sake is factor enough for me to soundly proclaim that Skillshare deserves it. The hands-on projects and capability to get in touch with others, including experts in your wanted fields of knowledge, makes the $14 a month cost a deal. The onus is on YOU to figure out which courses would bring you the most worth, whether you aim to strengthen your resume with shimmering competitive skills or assert yourself as a professional hobbyist.
Skillshare members can get much more than just brand-new skills from the courses. You’ll fall for discovering again, meet experienced and motivated peers that will challenge and inspire you, and might find yourself addicted (nay, consumed!) with acquiring understanding.
