As an online developer and specialist, I’m continuously finding out brand-new skills. Skillshare Devops… to stay up to date with the trade and make clients delighted. To do so, I’ve relied heavily on online knowing over the past 5 years. Generally, when I want to find out something new, I simply go to YouTube and key in a question and hope for the best.
The majority of the time, I get videos taught by “experts” with unlimited ad breaks and pitches to purchase their product. I mean, what else can you get out of “free courses.” Recently, fed up with the poor quality and questionable knowledge shared on totally free platforms, I relied on an online knowing platform I keep hearing so much about: Skillshare.
Impressed by Skillshare’s high-quality complimentary classes, I registered for a yearly membership (and scored a 40% discount, more on that in the Skillshare prices area) and dove deeper into the Skillshare courses used to premium members.
I will share my experience as a Skillshare student here in this in-depth evaluation. While some evaluations for online courses tend to be regurgitations of sales pages, whatever you are about to check out comes straight from my own experience as a passionate learner.
If you are looking for a TLDR version of this evaluation, here it is:
The sheer amount of brand-new content that is added to the platform weekly suffices to keep even the busiest of brains engaged. Whether you wish to get a brand-new ability to make your resume shine, change your house, or master a pastime “just for the hell of it,” you can quickly find dozens of opportunities to level up your repertoire. Even more, Skillshare’s generous payment plans for instructors suggests that there’s no scarcity of outstanding instructors creating top quality and new material routinely.
Now, if only there was more time in the day to learn all of it!
Communities of like-minded students
When you have specific niche interests like Board Game Style or Floral Embroideries, feeling part of a peer-group can be hard. In between Skillshare’s Groups, Workshops, and differed trainers, you’re unlocking a gold mine of chance for connection and neighborhood structure. This is a huge perk for us “nerds” to feel part of something larger than our own specific efforts AND it allows for us to find out not just from the experts, but from each other.
Easy to use all around
It took me all of 5 minutes to develop my account, login, browse for content I have an interest in, and find a course that fit the bill. I was diving deep into my first course in less than 20 minutes, excited to discover a lot more content to feast on.
Kudos to Skillshare for making an easily navigable desktop AND mobile platform, and for consisting of a start/stop functionality that syncs throughout devices.
In between the ability to “favorite” excellent teachers and conserve Skillshare classes to customized lists, not to mention the Discovery area of the Skillshare app, I am never ever for want of new product to discover. And the truth that I get to discover on MY schedule makes Skillshare the equivalent of the 100 emoji.

The Downsides (Cons) of Skillshare
These are the main disadvantages of Skillshare:
Not totally accessible
Not every teacher ROCKS
The advertisements are annoying, so you’ll want to pay
Not completely accessible
As I was evaluating courses and building my Skillshare review, I was constantly dissatisfied by the lack of closed captioning available on the videos. This basically makes the platform difficult to use for those who are hearing not able and impaired to check out lips. Minus points for exclusivity!
Not every teacher ROCKS
The difference in quality of instructors can be a continual obstacle on your method to understanding gain. Considering that having the ability to teach successfully is a hard-won skill in it of itself, it would be naive to believe that every trainer on the platform stands out at the essentials of mentor.
A good quality indicator is the number of trainees a course has actually hosted, as greater numbers tend to correlate with higher quality trainers. This isn’t constantly the case– some courses are just specific niche enough to not appeal to the “masses” anyhow.
Conclusion: is Skillshare Worth it?
The possibility to find out for knowing’s sake is factor enough for me to soundly announce that Skillshare is worth it. The hands-on jobs and capability to get in touch with others, consisting of specialists in your preferred fields of knowledge, makes the $14 a month cost a bargain. The onus is on YOU to figure out which courses would bring you the most value, whether you intend to reinforce your resume with gleaming competitive skills or assert yourself as an expert enthusiast.
Skillshare members can gain far more than simply brand-new abilities from the courses. You’ll fall for learning again, satisfy proficient and motivated peers that will challenge and motivate you, and might find yourself addicted (nay, consumed!) with getting knowledge.
